San Besso Sanctuary

The Sanctuary of San Besso distinguishes itself as the most captivating location in the Soana Valley. Erected in the 17th century, it stands imposingly at 2019 meters above sea level, partially nestled within the grandeur of Mount Fautenio's rock. Legend recounts that it was here, precisely, where San Besso fell, leaving an enduring mark upon the rock, thus bestowing upon the sanctuary an enigmatic and sacred aura.

For centuries, the Sanctuary of San Besso has been the focal point of two important annual pilgrimages, on August 10th and December 1st, involving both the Soana Valley and the Val di Cogne. During these days, numerous faithful gather to celebrate the saint in an atmosphere of festivity imbued with tradition, music, and authentic local culinary delights.
On the Piedmontese side, the sanctuary is accessible via a two-hour hike from Campiglia Soana, with an elevation gain of almost 700 meters.
